Question

What were the conditions like in the workhouses during the Victorian times and those for child chimney sweeps?

Answer

Conditions in the workhouses during Victorian times, and working conditions for chimney sweeps are not specified as content to be covered by Standard Grade at Foundation, General or Credit levels, for Unit IA, IB or IC. They provide interesting insights into the life of the poor in Victorian times. Also, they give us some idea of how local and central government were coming to terms with the problem of poverty.

However, there are other topics that will come up in the exam that you should be thinking about e.g. child labour in the coal mines if you have covered Unit IB. I suggest that you ask your teacher to go over the content headings for the units that you have covered, so that you do not waste valuable time looking at topics that will not come up in the June exam.
